Breege Staunton continued

Breege was privileged to have been born and reared in such a beautiful place as Westport in County Mayo, to wake up every morning to the view of Croagh Patrick. She feels forever privileged and moulded by the sights, sounds and smells of this rural environment.
Her favourite subjects to paint are street scenes of Old Galway and Westport, painted in sepia colours. She also loves to paint little villages nestled into the backdrop of the countryside, and coming from Westport, Croagh Patrick features in a lot of her work. Breege doesn’t follow any particular theme but paints as the moods and subjects present themselves.
Painting in oils is Breege’s preferred medium. As she says: “I love the smell and malleability of it, but I also paint in acrylic and on silk. I love pen and wash sketching and find this a great medium for outdoor work.”
Breege received her formal training in art from the Paintbox School, Galway, and from Fran McGann of the Gort Painting School.
She exhibits very successfully every year with the Paintbox and with the Galway Art Club. She has participated in group exhibitions at the Linenhall in Castlebar, the Custom House Studios in Westport and Galway Civic Museum.
Her paintings have been accepted by CroĆ (the West of Ireland Heart Foundation) for their Christmas cards in 2006 and 2007.
A solo exhibition of Breege’s work held in conjunction with the 2008 Westport Arts Festival was a sell-out. Westport Town Council and the Office of Public Works have both accepted her works.
Commissions can be arranged by contacting her.
